When we come together, we can get more good food to more people.
This Hunger Action Month, donations can go twice as far — every $1 helps rescue enough food for 10 meals.

Of all food in Canada is wasted
Of this food could be redirected to support Canadians
Pounds of greenhouse gases created annually from wasted food — the same as 17.3 million cars
With your support, we can connect even more food to people in need across Canada.
Are you a food business with surplus food? Second Harvest rescues food from over 7,500 food donors
across Canada.

Your gift nourishes more than just our bodies — it strengthens the spirit of sharing and kinship that lies at the heart of who we are as Dakota people. In times of challenge and growth, gestures like yours remind us that we are not alone, and that good-hearted partnerships can help us walk forward in a good way. Pidámiyedo – thank you for standing with us. Your kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated by our Nation.

Our partnership with Second Harvest has helped deliver hope, joy and nutrition to dozens of agencies and thousands of people. Second Harvest has provided valuable connections which enabled us to rescue and redistribute everything from 36,000 lbs of oranges to over one million pieces of chocolate! On behalf of the agencies we serve, we’re grateful to Second Harvest and their donors for bringing us opportunities to help feed our communities.

There are two primary benefits. The first, of course, is that [rescued food] lowers our food costs. But the second I'd consider a better benefit — people eat better food. Everybody knows that fresh food is more expensive than dry goods and packaged foods. The majority of the food that we receive [from Second Harvest] is fresh and we get an opportunity to feed that to people here.
