Alternative Residence Alternatives

There are two primary benefits. The first, of course, is that [rescued food] lowers our food costs. But the second I'd consider a better benefit — people eat better food. Everybody knows that fresh food is more expensive than dry goods and packaged foods. The majority of the food that we receive [from Second Harvest] is fresh and we get an opportunity to feed that to people here.

We have many families that have been renovicted, living in hotels with little children. It breaks my heart, but we’re able to give them some relief. Maybe they can even save a little for first and last month’s rent [with food support] and find somewhere new.
